OUR PURPOSE
From Loss to Legacy
Born from a grassroots movement and the aftermath of a profound loss, we exist to ensure no student is denied the opportunity to thrive.
Our Mission
To invest in students with potential and perseverance—providing scholarships and support that open doors to higher education. Inspired by Yanira Serrano’s life, we turn loss into lasting impact by uplifting those who carry resilience, compassion, and a heart to give back.
Our Vision
We envision a world where there is no limit to what our youth can achieve. A world where education is accessible and where students are not defined by their barriers, but by their potential—where access to education is paired with a sense of belonging, and every student has the support to rise, heal, and lead.

THE PROCESS
How the Scholarship Works
Our process is simple, but intentional. Every step is about getting to know the student behind the application.
01
Partnering with HMB High School
We work directly with the dedicated staff at our local high school. Seniors preparing for graduation complete an internal scholarship application and write an essay sharing their story. The school staff then gathers these applications and passes them along to our team.
02
Reading Their Stories
When we review applications, we look beyond grades and essays. Academics matter, but we care just as much about who they are. We look for students who show resilience, care for others, and could benefit from someone believing in them.
03
The Interview
After reviewing applications, we invite finalists to interview. We keep it conversational—not a formal test. It’s a chance to hear their stories, understand their goals, and connect on a more personal level.
04
Final Selection
After the interviews, our committee selects the recipients. It’s never easy—we meet so many incredible students. In the end, we choose those who reflect the values we care about most: perseverance, compassion, and a commitment to something bigger than themselves.
05
Honoring our Seniors
The most meaningful part of the process is Scholarship Night at the high school. We join families, teachers, and community members to celebrate the graduating seniors and present our awards. It’s a special night that reminds students they are seen, supported, and not alone as they take their next step.
We do not accept direct applications. Students must be nominated by their school.
